WELCOME TO THE 40TH ANNUAL SIX FLAGS MAGIC MOUNTAIN CLASSIC
MDDTUSA invites dance teams, drill teams, hip hop crews and pep squads to participate in our 40th Annual Six Flags Magic Mountain Classic. This event is open to school teams, dance studios and independent dance programs serving students in grades K-12.
EVENT SCHEDULE
SATURDAY, MAY 1, 2027: Junior and Elementary Divisions
SUNDAY, MAY 2, 2027: Senior Divisions
Please Note: Junior and Elementary divisions may be moved to Sunday, May 2, depending on the registrations received and in the spirit of hosting a competitive event.

The competition will be held on the new GearWorks Theater stage. The wood-floor performance area measures 31 feet wide by 30 feet deep and accommodates up to 20 dancers at one time.
Competitor park access is included in the registration fee. Six Flags will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on both event days. One complimentary Director admission will be provided when entries and fees are received by the deadline.
DANCE COMPETITION JUDGING CRITERIA
All routines must demonstrate formation changes and the specific technique of the category entered. Teams are judged on routine construction, technical execution and showmanship. A panel of highly qualified judges will score each performance. All decisions of the judges are FINAL.
MUSIC SUBMISSION
Six Flags has updated its audio system. The system accommodates MP3 players, cell phones and CDs. MDDTUSA will not provide an adapter, so teams must bring their own. Additional music-submission instructions will be sent with the performance schedule. Please do not upload music through the website.
ROUTINE TIME LIMIT REQUIREMENTS
Dancers have 30 seconds to enter and exit the performance floor. Timing and judging begin with the first beat of the music and end with the last beat of the music. Team routines must be between 2 and 3 minutes in duration.
COSTUMES & FOOTWEAR
Performance costumes must enhance the theme or style of the routine, be in good taste, be appropriate for a family audience and be approved by the team Director. Performers MUST wear soft or rubber-soled shoes. Half-soles and bare feet are not permitted.
PROPS & SETS
Props and sets may be used. All props and sets must be rubber-tipped to prevent floor damage. A routine will be disqualified if protective tips are not used. Any facility or performance-floor damage caused by props or sets will result in disqualification, and damages will be charged to the team's school.
ONLINE REGISTRATION
Registration is completed entirely online:
1. Select REGISTER NOW on the MDDTUSA website.
2. Sign in to an existing account or select CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT.
3. Complete the team profile, select the event and divisions, and add the team roster.
ENTRY FEES & TICKETS
Routine Entry Fee: $75 per routine
Competitor Ticket: $73
Spectator Ticket: $70
Spectator Wristband for Six Flags Season-Pass Holders: $25
Season passes are not accepted for competitor entry or admission. Spectators and guests using a Six Flags season pass must also purchase a $25 audience wristband outside the theater on the day of the competition. Registration fees are non-refundable.
Online payment is available through Zeffy for participating teams. Payment information will be provided upon registration.
TICKET ORDERING & PICK-UP
All competitor-ticket payments must be received two weeks before the event.
Spectator tickets are available for advance purchase. Payment at least ten days in advance is recommended to allow time to process the order.
Season-pass spectator wristband orders must be received no later than one week before the event.
Additional spectator wristbands will be available at the prearranged group rate on the event day and must be paid for in cash.
All ticket orders will be held for pickup on competition day at the Miss Dance Drill Team USA Ticket Will Call near the Six Flags Magic Mountain front gate.
AWARDS & SCORESHEETS
Trophies will be awarded to at least half of the teams in each division. Overall High-Point Champions in the Elementary, Junior and Senior divisions will receive cash donations.
Directors will receive all routine scoresheets when they sign out at the conclusion of the awards ceremony. Scoresheets will not be mailed.

TEAM ROUTINES
AGE DIVISION GUIDELINES
Scheduling and division placement are based on the oldest performer in each routine. For example, a routine with seven Junior performers and two Senior performers must compete in the Senior division.
ELEMENTARY: Ages 10 and under
JUNIOR: Ages 11-14
SENIOR: Ages 15-19
TEAM SIZE DIVISION GUIDELINES
SMALL: 6-10 performers
MEDIUM: 11-16 performers
LARGE: 17-20 or more performers
The GearWorks Theater stage accommodates no more than 20 performers at one time. Teams with more than 20 performers must use entrances and exits during the routine to cycle dancers through the performance area.
TEAM ROUTINE CATEGORY GUIDELINES
JAZZ:
Routine emphasis must be on jazz dance technique. Props are permitted but must not be the focal point of the routine.
LYRICAL:
The routine must have a poetic style with soft, flowing choreography focused on lyrical interpretation. The music selection must contain audible song lyrics.
CONTEMPORARY:
The routine must contain creative, abstract and dramatic movements that showcase contemporary or modern dance, unique musical interpretation or concert-dance techniques.
HIP HOP:
The routine must demonstrate street-dance styles such as hip hop, funk, freestyle, house, grooves, popping, locking or breakdancing. A maximum of three gymnastic feats may be included. Divisions are separated into Male Hip Hop, Female Hip Hop and Open Hip Hop.
MILITARY:
The routine must display precision movements and demonstrate sharp angular arm sequences, varied marching styles, and contagion and level dynamics. A kickline sequence is permitted. Traditional military includes leading throughout with the left foot.
POM/SONG:
The routine must focus on the use of poms and feature innovative dance and precision movements. Division sizes are separated by Varsity or JV, except for Junior and Elementary divisions. There are no movement-ability restrictions.
NOVELTY/CHARACTER:
The routine must emphasize characterization or have a unique theme. Entrants must use creative costumes and unusual or innovative movement to communicate character-driven choreography. Small sets are permitted.
PROP:
The routine must emphasize the use of a prop or variety of props as its primary focal point.
SHORT FLAGS:
The routine must focus on the use of short pep flags.
OPEN DANCE:
The routine may include any dance style or combination of styles.
PLEASE NOTE
There must be at least three teams in each division. Otherwise, those routines will compete in the Open category. Teams may not compete against themselves within the same division.
PENALTIES & DISQUALIFICATION
-5 points: Routine entered in the wrong dance style.
-5 points: Not performing at the scheduled time.
-2 points per performer: Performing with more or fewer dancers than permitted.
-2 points: Failure to follow music-submission rules.
-2 points: Music with poor sound quality.
-2 points: Using separate entrance or exit music that is not the routine music or does not fall within the time limit.
-2 points: Routine is under or over the time limit by up to 30 seconds.
DISQUALIFICATION: Routine is under or over the time limit by more than 30 seconds.
DISQUALIFICATION: The same routine or choreography competes in multiple categories at the same event.
DISQUALIFICATION: Pyramids or tricks exceed two full body-lengths in vertical height.
DISQUALIFICATION: Recording another team with a camera or mobile phone.
DISQUALIFICATION: Inappropriate content, including profane lyrics, suggestive choreography or risque costuming.
DISQUALIFICATION: Coaches or non-team members are found competing.
DISQUALIFICATION: Bad sportsmanship by a performer, team or coach.
